What is a fishless cycle?

A fishless cycle is a clean method of creating a nitrifying bacteria colony for Aquariums. Without established biological media, new fish are at great risk of dying from ammonia & nitrite toxicity. Preparing for your fish, or keeping a quarantine/vacant tank ready for use is safe & easy with AmmonChlor®.

Where can I find Pure ammonia? Where can I find Clear ammonia?

Pure ammonia or Clear Ammonia is ammonia that is not tainted by detergent, surfactant, anti caking agent or other agents that could otherwise render it unsafe for biological filtration. Suitable ammonia is hard to find for fish keeping hobbyists, and do not come with instructions or dosing protocols for biological applications. AmmonChlor® is safe for transport and poses no explosive or flammatory hazard. A product MSDS is available on request.

What is AmmonChlor®?

AmmonChlor® is clear ammonia in a powdered form.

Free from impurities.

.......................

Can AmmonChlor® be used in saltwater as well as freshwater?

Yes

.......................

Can I use AmmonChlor® when there are fish in my tank?

NO! NEVER! Ammonia is toxic to fish. This product is an extremely concentrated ammonia source. ONLY after a 100% water change is it guaranteed to be safe to place fish with the cycled media.

...............................

Why must I do the water change after cycling my tank with AmmonChlor® ?

The water change is to remove the residual nitrates. Don't be rough with the media. There probably won't be particulate matter to remove and you will find it shouldn't clog at all while cycling.

The garden will love the water you discard as it is high in nitrates.

See below for Aquaponic applications

Is there anywhere I can get advice about using AmmonChlor®

There is an Instruction sheet enclosed with the product that explains it's use. Keep this Data safe as we do not replace them if lost.

Information read on the internet regarding the AmmonChlor process cannot always be relied upon. Publishing Instructions not endorsed by us will result in legal action.

.......................

Is AmmonChlor® expensive?

Each 20gram tub treats 3700 litres of water, more than most hobbyists will ever use. The cost to keep media cycled is tenths of a cent as it is far more concentrated than any other liquid ammonia source and less expensive by comparison.

.......................

Does AmmonChlor® go bad?

AmmonChlor® will keep for years if stored correctly in air tight, sealed container out of direct sunlight. AmmonChlor® contains no anti caking agents, so if contents settle, simply seal the container and give it a shake to redisperse the contents. It should be kept secure at all times whether in powdered or liquid form.

Is AmmonChlor® dangerous?

In it's powdered form, AmmonChlor® is inert and non explosive ie safe for air travel. Nonetheless it IS still a poisonous substance and like all chemicals, should be handled with caution and stored with great precaution. Do not allow children to come into contact with the product as it will irritate the mucous membranes and eyes. Keep the stock solution with the same safety precautions.

It is extremely toxic to fish.

Why do you recommend a 100% water change at the end of the cycle?

We recommend a 100% water change to rid the system of the resulting nitrate load that is present at the end of the cycle. However, if you are adding plants to the system before fish, less than 100% water change is necessary. In Aquaponic systems, the nitrates would actually benefit your plant growth. You could add the fish after the nitrates have diminished to safe levels.

.....................................

Can AmmonChlor® be used in Aquaponics?

Yes. However, it would be wise not to add plants until the last phase of the cycle where there are zero ammonia and nitrite readings, but very high residual nitrate readings. After the water has circulated over the plants/grow bed and the nitrate readings are diminished down to a safe level, you could then add the fish to the system. There would then be no reason to add anymore AmmonChlor® to the system as the fish will take over the job of providing the ammonia that keeps the bacteria colonies fed.
